In collaboration between the Montreal-based company Destins Croisés (Québec, Canada) and the Tunisian association Al Badil, the Franco-Canadian-Moroccan choreographer Ismaël Mouaraki invites five professional dancers to take part in a creation laboratory in Tunis, from January 27 to February 13, 2026, with an audition day on January 26.
This 60-hour laboratory will explore the key concepts from V!TAL, the latest creation by Destins Croisés, which transforms joy into an act of resistance.
The lab will conclude with a public presentation as part of the Festival des Premières Chorégraphiques, as well as the production of a short documentary film during the final week of creation, aiming to highlight the richness of this cultural exchange.
Participation in the lab is paid.

About the companies and the choreographer
Al Badil
Al Badil – L'alternative culturelle is a Tunisian association founded in 2017 that works to democratize and decentralize culture across the country. Led by choreographer Selim Ben Safia, the association places contemporary choreographic creation at the core of its mission through training, production, and the dissemination of young artists’ work. Its projects, such as Hors Lits Tunisie and le Festival des Premières Chorégraphiques, support the emergence and professionalization of Tunisian talents in the performing arts. Today, Al Badil stands as a key player in Tunisia’s cultural and artistic development, promoting equitable access to culture and artistic creation.
Destins Croisés
The philosophy of Destins Croisés (translated as “Crossed Destinies”) lies entirely in its name. Founded in 2003 by French-Moroccan-Canadian choreographer and dancer Ismaël Mouaraki, the Montreal-based company brings together urban cultures and contemporary performing arts in choreographic frescoes that question the individual, society, and their social and cultural dynamics.
While the philosophy and vision of the company are inseparable from its choreographer, his personal story and his urban dance roots, Ismaël brings his original and distinctive works to life by surrounding himself with talented collaborators and performers from diverse backgrounds.
Ismaël Mouaraki
Ismaël Mouaraki is a French-Moroccan choreographer based in Montreal, known for his dance at the crossroads of cultures. For more than twenty years, he has developed a unique signature where the strength of urban dance meets the precision of contemporary movement.
His choreographic creations reflect the driving force of his life’s work: to embody the many facets of humanity through movement.
In 2023, he received the Prix de la danse de Montréal for Best Choreographic Work for Le sacre de Lila, a creation uniting dancers from Quebec and Morocco, blending dance, spirituality, and collective celebration.
An artist of movement and a sensitive entrepreneur, Ismaël collaborates with performers and creators from a wide range of disciplines. For him, dance is both a social and spiritual language, a tool for transmission and encounter.
